A New Naruto Social Network Game.....Oh, and Toonami is Back

GREE, one of Japan's largest mobile phone game platforms and social networking service, has announced that it will be offering the first Naruto-based social card game Naruto x GREE. It will be under Namco Bandai Games and an English version would be available later on. The way you would play it is the users will collect ninja info cards and can take on missions and regularly held challenges to raise their skills and levels. Players can also join forces and form ninja teams and defeat enemies.

GREE will release Naruto X GREE for feature phones in June. The game is slated for release on smartphones (Android 2.2+ and iOS) sometime this summer. Like most social games, it's free to play, but some items that are used in the game will cost real money. Since there is already a One Piece game, there's probably gonna be a Dragon ball one too.

And I'm hoping it is here to stay. On April 1, 2012, just past Toonami's 15th anniversary, Adult Swim, which generally changes its programming for April Fools' Day, began to play The Room (as they had done the past several years). The scene then switched to T.O.M. (in his third incarnation) aboard the Absolution, greeting the viewers while commenting that it is April Fools' Day, before introducing that week's scheduled episode of Bleach. The Toonami-related programming and bumpers continued throughout the night, featuring Dragon Ball Z, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki, Outlaw Star, Big O, YuYu Hakusho, Blue Submarine No. 6, Trigun, Astro Boy, and Gigantor. T.O.M. also presented a review of Mass Effect 3 and promoted the recent DVD releases of the series featured. The day after they posted a tweet "Want it back? Let us know. #BringBackToonami" A couple days later, Adult Swim followed up this tweet with one stating, "#BringBackToonami We've heard you. Thank you for your passion and interest - stay tuned."  Then finally on May 16, Adult Swim posted a message on Facebook announcing that Toonami would return on May 26, with a similar message on Twitter, ending with #ToonamisBackBitches. The network issued a press release later that day confirming the block's revival as a Saturday late night anime block. Toonami made its return with all new bumpers and updated animation of T.O.M.'s third incarnation. The new midnight timeslot of the block has more mature themes than its predecessors. The current lineup imports Adult Swim's anime and adds two new shows, Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins.

I seriously done 3 back flips, five random TaeKwon-do moves, and kissed a random guy on the street when I heard they were really going to bring it back.

I got a little upset when there were only 6 shows (four that's already from on Adult Swim, big whoop) in the block and other star, Sara, wasn't there. The show line-up currently as:

  • Bleach
  • Casshern Sins
  • Cowboy Bebop
  • Deadman Wonderland
  • Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
  • Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2nd GIG

Since it been nearly four years it been canceled, I'm at least humbled that it actually been revived. Hopefully it will stay running for a while, then they'll probably bring back the things that made Toonami how it is now.

I'm not a big fan of social networking games. I tried farmville but got bored after an hour. It looks interesting but unfortunately I don't have a smart phone.

I loved Toonami as a kid. I don't know if I'll be checking out the new Toonami. I watch most of my TV shows on the internet these days. They might add more shows in the future. I'm going to check out the new shows online.

I'm pretty sure there's plenty of Naruto social network games out. Don't know why they keep making more, but hey it rolls in the dough. I've been not watching and catching up with the series lately. Is the series still going?

I'm happy that Toonami is revived but not how they revived it. I would be nice to put up some of the old school stuff like they did from April's Fools (Rurouni Kenshin, Tenchi Muyo, and one of my faves, Lupin III) I'll just give them the benefit of the doubt for now and let time make its course.

There's a social network game out there called Ninja Saga. You can tell from the artwork that
they ripped off Naruto. I stopped watching Naruto in the middle of the Pein saga. I guess I
just got bored. Yeah it's still going and I don't think it will stop anytime soon. I think they have more episodes than DB + DBZ + DBGT put together now.

Yeah I agree. Some of the old school stuff would be nice. They probably will add some of the
old stuff and new shows later on.
